The race that stops the nation shouldn't start with an hour in traffic. On Cup Day, Elizabeth Anne carries racegoers along the river while the rest of Melbourne queues — glasses poured, hats un-crushed, and the day already underway.
She has been part of the city's grand occasions since 1946; the first Tuesday in November is simply one she dresses for annually.
